"Kala Kunj", Jungpura Extension  (Regd)


Kala kunj started its journey as a cultural society committed to the spreading  of classical and semi- classical performing arts in 1980. Under the chairmanship of Ex. Home Minister Sardar Buta Singh , it has come a long way in generating interest among the younger generation towards the rich cultural  heritage of India and show casing it to the wider public. Through traditional choreographies  and organizing stage performances in classical dance forms like Kathak , Bharatnatyam and Odissi, Hindustani Classical music and Instrumental music, Kala Kunj has made a commendable contribution to this great legacy of our country. Kala Kunj has also produced a number of dance- dramas based on socially relevant issues like ‘Tum Chandan Hum Pani’, based on the life of Sant Ravi Das; ‘Pratham Purush’, ‘Yashodhara’, ‘Jyoti Pushp’, ‘Shiv Bhakt-Kanappa’, ‘Varsha Mangal’, ‘Ab aeyo Khelan Hori’, ‘Tere ishq nachaya’, ‘Krishnamayee’,’Colours of Rajsthan’, ‘Ibaadat-e-ishq’, ‘Shyam rang ranchi’ etc. The Central Doordarshan Archives (Ministry of Information and broadcasting Govt. of India) has released DVD of ‘Tum Chandan Hum Pani’.

The society has had the privilege of honoring stalwarts/ prominent personalities in the field of art and culture like Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Vikas Kashalkar, Justice Madan B.Lokur, Dr. Ashok Chakardhar, Vasant Sathe,Pratap Somvanshi, Ajai Bhambi  eminent writer Late Jainendra Kumar ji, Amrita Pritam, Shivani Ji, Kiran Bedi, Chhaya Devi, Manu Bhandari,  Yamini Krishnamurthy, Gulab Bai ( nautanki), Rita Ganguly, Surinder Kaur, Shanno Khurana, Savita Devi, Kapila Vatsayan, Alaknanda Devi, Nalini Singh , Kamalini Dutt,  Elizabeth Brunier, Kamla Ratnam, Nirmala Jain , Krishna Sobti, Dr. Usha Luthra, Dr. Sneh Bhargava,  Promilla Dandvate, Late Sh. Jainendra ji, Late Bhavani Prasad Mishra, Late Vishnu Prabhakar, Sh. Rajendra Yadav, Late Akshay Kumar Jain, Late Yashpal Jain  and many more.

Every year kala kunj organizes “Guru Ravi Jain Youth Festival of Classical dance and music“ in order to provide a platform to the young artists who are struggling to make a mark.

From time to time, kala kunj also conducts the workshops and sessions by eminent artists for its students at Nrityakunj.

Kala kunj’s  repertory of dancers has also been performing world wide

 

 About Nritya Kunj

Nritya Kunj a cultural centre with its aim to promote dance and music as a hobby, a fun activity which helps in overall personality development holds regular classes for Kathak Dance, casio and Hindustani Vocal music for children and ladies of all age groups and nationalities (students from south America, Afghanistan).

The centre regularly organizes stage shows for its students to showcase their talent. These shows in particular help children develop confidence, learn stage presence and overcome inhibitions of speaking and performing in front of a large audience.

At Nritya Kunj we realize that an additional qualification in the field of dance and music is an added advantage for today’s generation. For this, the centre is affiliated to the Prayag Sangeet Samiti (Allahbad) and is an authorized centre for conducting exams till the sixth year (equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree) for dance, vocal music and instrumental music. This degree is recognized by all universities.

Under the guidance and leadership of Guru Nalini, the centre is committed to continuously walk on the path of its vision.
